Granero Pens Madrid Contract Extension Until 2011

Spanish under-21 player Esteban Granero has signed a contract extension, committing him to the Bernabeu until 2011.

The 20 year old midfielder has already been told that he has a first team future with the club and will keep the number 33 jersey for the new season.

Clearly, Pedrag Mijatovic and Bernd Schuster agreed that his performances last season earned this deal. He started 29 games in La Segunda for Real Madrid Castilla in the last campaign, scoring four goals in the process.

Granero has been at Real Madrid for years and started playing with the ‘C’ team at the age of 17. He also represented Spain at varying youth levels, including at the U-20 World Championships in Canada this summer, and with the U-21s against England.

The player was delighted with the development, saying, “I’m not going to waste this opportunity to play in the first team. It’s the dream of all soccer players. However, I know I have to have patience, but to be prepared when the opportunity arises.

“When it arrives, I know I’ll take advantage of it.”
