Mourinho Is Set Demanding Double Target For Chelsea


Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been given demanding criteria for the coming season to be considered a success at Stamford Bridge. In what chief executive Peter Kenyon is convinced will be another two-horse race, Mourinho will be judged on his ability to win back the Premiership title and triumph in the Champions League final - to be staged in Moscow, in Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's native Russia.

Kenyon outlined the ambitious objectives Mourinho is expected to achieve when speaking at the official opening of Chelsea's £30 million training complex at Cobham in Surrey.
He admitted: "There was a disappointment that surrounded losing the Premiership [to Manchester United last season].


"But our two domestic cup runs were fantastic and finishing the season by winning the first FA Cup final at Wembley against United was a major boost.
"But we believe with the squad we've got we're capable of seriously competing in all four competitions.


"I feel the Premiership is a two-horse race, yes. We always see Liverpool as a threat but we've got to say that we see United as the No.1 threat. In terms of winning it, I think it's between us and United.


"But the aspiration is to regain the Premiership and reach the final of the Champions League.
"I think that would be a pretty successful season. Everybody is coming back here to do what we need to do to pick up all four trophies."


Kenyon continued: "We want to be recognised as one of the global clubs. You can't do that without winning trophies and you certainly can't become that without winning the Champions League.


"We know everybody at Chelsea, especially the players, are intent on getting the Premiership back.


"But the Champions League is the Holy Grail and in order to move the club on, and the players' careers, then everybody is after it. So within that period you probably have to do it more than once. That's a big challenge."


Kenyon also issued a veiled warning to Mourinho when he said: "I hope we don't repeat the politics of last year.
